About the role

The Lifeguard and PE Teaching Assistant is responsible for ensuring the safety, supervision, and well‑being of all pool users during swimming lessons, sport activities, and recreational use.
The role focuses on accident prevention, emergency response, and maintaining a safe pool environment in accordance with safeguarding and safety policies.
When the pool allows, the postholder will as a PE Teaching Assistant, supporting PE lessons through student supervision, equipment preparation, basic organisation, and safety support, under the direction of the PE teacher.
Pool Safety & Supervision Maintain continuous and vigilant supervision of swimmers at all times Enforce pool rules and safety regulations consistently Take immediate action to prevent unsafe behaviour Respond promptly and effectively to emergencies, including rescues and first aid Report all incidents, injuries, or concerns according to procedures Water Quality Monitoring Conduct routine pool water testing using provided test kits (e.g. chlorine, pH) according to the agreed Accurately record test results and promptly report any readings outside acceptable ranges, or any water quality concerns, to the Pool Technician or designated technical staff Pool & Equipment Management Ensure rescue equipment and safety tools are available and in good condition Carry out daily visual checks of the pool area and report hazards or defects Support cleanliness and order in the pool area before and after use PE Teaching Assistant Support Assist PE teachers during lessons with student supervision, organisation, and safety support, as directed.
Help set up, distribute, and store PE equipment.
Support smooth lesson transitions and supervision, particularly during large group activities or combined classes.
Assist with monitoring student participation and behaviour during PE lessons.
Provide support for sports days, events, and extracurricular activities as required.
This role does not include independent teaching, lesson planning, assessment, or curriculum delivery.
General Responsibilities Assist with swimming lessons and aquatic events when required Attend required training, briefings, and safety drills Perform other reasonable duties related to pool safety as assigned Pastoral & Safeguarding Uphold safeguarding, health, and safety standards at all times as part of your professional duty.
Act consistently in the best interests of children, ensuring their safety, happiness, and holistic development.
Professional Contribution Collaborate effectively with other departments to achieve the ’s shared goals and vision.
