The project, funded by the Canada Embassy, seeks to improve media coverage of gender issues, amplify diverse voices, challenge harmful stereotypes, and promote balanced representation of women, men, girls, boys, and gender-diverse individuals in news reporting. To support this effort, CCIM seeks to engage an experienced Trainer/Editor to conduct training, provide mentoring support, and guide participants in producing high-quality gender-sensitive stories. Expected Outputs Consultant Trainer/Editor for Gender-Sensitive Reporting CAREER CATEGORY: Consultancies LOCATION: Phnom Penh SUMMARY Purpose of the Assignment The purpose of this consultancy is to strengthen the knowledge and practical skills of 40 citizen journalists in applying gender-sensitive reporting principles and producing quality stories that promote gender equality and social inclusion. Scope of Work The Trainer/Editor will be responsible for designing and delivering capacity-building activities and providing editorial support to participants in producing and publishing stories on gender and GBV on the CJ KHMER website, CJ News Facebook page and community pages. The consultant will: a. Training Preparation Review project documents and training objectives. Develop and customize training materials on gender-sensitive reporting. Prepare training agenda, presentations, exercises, case studies, and evaluation tools. Coordinate with the project team on logistical and technical arrangements. b. Conduct Two 3-Day Training Workshops Facilitate two (2) separate three-day training workshops covering topics such as: Fundamental concepts of gender and gender equality. Gender-sensitive journalism principles and ethics. Identifying and addressing gender biases in media reporting. Inclusive interview techniques. Reporting on gender-based violence and vulnerable groups responsibly. Story framing and narrative development. Use of gender-sensitive language. Practical exercises and story development sessions. Expected participants: 40 citizen journalists (40% female) c. Conduct One 5-Day Mentoring Trip Travel with selected participants to conduct on-the-job mentoring. Provide coaching during story identification, interviews, information gathering, writing, and editing. Support participants in applying gender-sensitive reporting concepts in real reporting environments. Facilitate constructive feedback sessions. Eligibility The consultant should possess: Bachelor’s degree in journalism, Media Studies, Gender Studies, Social Sciences, or related fields; At least two years of professional experience in journalism and media sector in Cambodia; Demonstrated expertise in gender-sensitive reporting and editorial review; Proven experience in designing and facilitating media training programs. Strong skills in mentoring journalists and editors. Strong editorial and storytelling skills. Knowledge of gender equality, women's rights, and social inclusion issues.
