Create an inclusive, welcoming, caring, respectful and safe learning environment Plan and design language learning activities that incorporate a range of instructional strategies and include the appropriate use of digital technology Teach Khmer language classes as per the schedule provided Use a variety of collaboratively designed student assessment and evaluation practices that accurately reflect the learner outcomes within the Alberta Khmer Language Program Employ classroom management strategies that promote a positive, welcoming and engaging learning environment Utilize differentiated instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners; collaborate with the Student Services Team and and the Inclusive Education Team as needed Communicate with parents via Seesaw, Google Classroom and email, and be available for in-person meetings and workshops Join Khmer Language Team meetings and other staff meetings Participate in professional development activities Communicate with parents via Seesaw and/or Google Classroom and be available for in-person meetings and workshops Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Director of Early Years, Principals or Head of School
Bachelor's Degree in Khmer language and literature, or linguistics is required Proficiency in written and spoken Khmer Possession of a valid First Aid and CPR (Level C) certification is required Teaching license preferred Experience teaching Khmer language and culture Experience teaching in an inquiry-based and/or play-based setting preferred Proficiency in English enabling conceptual explanations of language concepts and active participation in discussions with the Languages Team regarding curricula Experience working in an international context or culturally diverse setting an asset Understands inquiry-based and/or play-based teaching and learning practices, or has a keen interest in developing related knowledge and skills Builds positive and productive relationships with students, parents, peers and others in the school and local community to support student learning Recognizes that the professional practice of a teacher is bound by standards of conduct expected of a caring, knowledgeable and reasonable adult entrusted with the custody, care or education of students Brings a positive mindset, inspiration, kindness and a commitment to collaboration Demonstrates cultural competence and enjoys learning about new cultures
